The Power Shift: A Midlife Mojo Origin Story

Welcome to the launch of “Midlife Mojo: The Power Within”—my personal story of transformation, resilience, and radical self-honor. This isn’t just a blog post. It’s a declaration. At 46, my body whispered, my spirit roared, and I listened. From climbing the stairs to competing on stage, this journey redefined my strength, my health, and my legacy. I’m sharing it because every woman deserves to feel powerful again. This is our midlife revolution.

The Power Shift

Midlife Mojo Origin Story

Prelude to Awakening

I was 46, and something inside me was cracking open.

I was carrying a heaviness I hadn’t named—stuck in a relationship that left me feeling invisible, unworthy, and drained. Depression had crept in quietly, making everything feel heavy and joyless. I had sacrificed so much for others—and I would do it again—but somewhere in that devotion, I’d lost sight of me.

The Moment My Body Spoke

That moment… when everything changed.

One day, walking upstairs, I felt my body jiggle in places it hadn’t before. I was gasping for breath—and I couldn’t ignore it. I was co-owner of a gym yet not living the lifestyle. I was addicted to sugar and hot fudge cake. And most of all, I was drifting far from the promise I’d made to myself years ago: to be strong, mobile, and free enough to run with my children and future grandchildren.

That wasn’t just weight—it was a symbol of everything I was carrying. It was my alarm clock.

 Confronting the Sweet Addiction

Sugar was my secret comfort, a quiet ritual of isolation. That hot fudge cake wasn’t just dessert—it was dopamine, distraction, and self-soothing wrapped in chocolate.

I knew the science. I knew the risks. Inflammation. Diabetes. Fatty liver. Yet I couldn’t stop—until I decided to. And the withdrawal? It was real: headaches, insomnia, cravings.

But I wasn’t quitting cake. I was quitting shame. Quitting silence. Choosing life. Choosing me.

The Spark of a New Vision, Denied

Scrolling online one day, I saw them—figure competitors. Women sculpted, strong, feminine. They looked like what I had been dreaming for my own body. That desire wasn’t just vanity—it was vision. A reclaiming of power.

I asked my former husband—who knew that world—for support.

He said no.

The rejection felt like the final confirmation that I didn’t matter. But then the universe answered back… with two songs: “Roar” and “Brave.” And  it stirred my spirit. Those lyrics became my battle cry.

 A Voice I Almost Forgot

As I drove home, heart aching, lyrics pouring through the speakers, my inner voice rose up and said: Don’t forget who you are.

- Athlete.

-Engineer

- NASA collaborator.

- Homeschooling mama of four

-Business owner

- Sensei in Martial arts.

And just like that, my confidence flickered back to life. Not because of the things I had accomplished or the titles, but who I had to become to accomplish them. I wasn’t asking for permission or most of all acceptance anymore. This journey was mine to own.

Training My Body, Reclaiming My Power

I went all in. I studied macros, saved for suits, found a gym outside my own. I trained, measured, adjusted. My body responded. My spirit ignited.

I knew how to prep meals—I’d done it for him. But now I was doing it for me. I trained in heels, learned posing, shrank my macros. And most of all, I got healthier. Stronger. Clearer.

This wasn’t just physical—it was spiritual mastery.

 Backstage With My Doubt

Backstage at the competition, surrounded by other warriors who had also fought to be here, one woman, trembled in fear. I told her: “We’ve worked hard. We didn’t do this to be seen—we did it because we finally saw ourselves.

She climbed the stairs. I stood behind her… afraid.

But then I remembered: I’ve earned this. I dared. I changed. I arrived. And I walked onto that stage—not to win but knowing I have already won.
