The Power of the Breath: A Journey from Despair to Hope with God by My Side

There was a time when the weight of life felt unbearable, as if I was drowning in a sea of grief and darkness. Losing my daughter, Domo, on that heartbreaking Thanksgiving night left me shattered, struggling to find meaning in a world that suddenly felt so cruel. Each day was a battle to keep going, each breath a reminder of the pain that seemed never-ending.

For a long time, I was lost in that darkness, overwhelmed by despair. But through it all, there was one thing that kept me anchored: my relationship with God. Without His presence in my life, I know I wouldn’t be here today, sane enough to share this journey with you.

God became my refuge, my strength in the midst of the storm. His Word became my lifeline, guiding me through the darkest moments when I couldn’t see a way forward. I clung to scriptures like Isaiah 41:10, where God promises, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” These words were my comfort, reminding me that even in the depths of despair, I was not alone.

As I began to lean more into my faith, I also started my journey toward wellness. It wasn’t easy, and it didn’t happen overnight, but with God by my side, I found the strength to keep going. I started focusing on my well-being—caring for my body, mind, and soul as an act of faith and trust in God’s plan for my life. Wellness became my way of honoring the life God had given me, a life that still held purpose, even in the midst of loss.

Through this journey, I experienced a profound transformation. The despair that once consumed me began to lift, replaced by a growing sense of hope and peace. I realized that I wasn’t the same person I had been before the tragedy—I had become stronger, more resilient, and more rooted in my faith.

Today, I find myself in a place of peace, joy, and even excitement for the future—a place I never thought I’d reach. I’m no longer just surviving; I’m thriving, and it’s all because of God’s grace. This journey has brought me to my best season, and for the first time in a long time, I feel truly alive.

But this journey isn’t over. I’m still walking this path, still growing and healing, and I know that God is with me every step of the way. That’s why I created GURL JUST BREATHE—to share this journey with you, to show you that with God, there is always hope, even in the darkest of times.

Let’s take this journey together. Start by closing your eyes and taking a deep breath. As you breathe in, remember the words of Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Feel the air fill your lungs, bringing with it the peace and strength that only God can provide. As you exhale, release your fears and worries into His hands, trusting that He will carry you through.

Remember, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). You are not alone in your pain, and with God by your side, there is nothing you cannot overcome.

Affirmations:

This is just the beginning, GURL. With God by your side, the best is yet to come. I’m honored to walk this path with you, sharing the faith, the hope, and the love that have brought me back to life.

When I think about my journey from despair to hope, I'm often reminded of a story from the Bible - the one about Lazarus in John 11. In this account, Lazarus, a dear friend of Jesus, falls ill and eventually passes away. Upon hearing the news, Jesus says something profound: "Lazarus's death is not something to grieve over. He is asleep, but I will awaken him."

I find this story particularly meaningful because, like Lazarus, I too felt as though I was asleep - suffocated by grief and pain. But just as Jesus awakened Lazarus, He awakened me as well, pulling me out of the darkness and giving me new life. This realization was a turning point for me, for it made me understand that even in the face of death and despair, there is always hope in Jesus.

As I continued to heal, I discovered that hope is not merely a feeling or a mere expectation of something good to come. Instead, hope is a powerful force that propels us forward, a driving energy that enables us to face each day with renewed strength and determination. This newfound hope led me to reevaluate my priorities and focus on what truly mattered in life.

I decided to pour my time and energy into building meaningful relationships and investing in personal growth. I started volunteering at a local shelter, providing support and resources to women facing similar struggles. In doing so, I found a sense of purpose and fulfillment that I hadn't experienced before. And through it all, I remained grounded in my faith, trusting that God was leading me every step of the way.

Today, I can honestly say that I am grateful for the dark times I've faced. For it was in those moments that I learned the true power of hope and the unwavering love of God. And it is this hope that I wish to share with you, dear reader. No matter what you may be going through, remember that with God by your side, there is always a way forward. Take a deep breath, embrace the hope that is within you, and trust that God will awaken you to new life.
