Embracing the holy instant and letting go of ego-based perceptions can be a challenging task, especially when we've spent our entire lives identifying with our egos. However, the teachings of Jesus remind us that we have a powerful ally in this journey: the Holy Spirit. The role of the Holy Spirit is to guide us towards holiness, helping us see beyond the ego's projections and distorted perceptions.
Imagine for a moment that you're wearing a pair of glasses that distort your vision. These glasses might make it difficult for you to see the world as it truly is. Now, imagine that you have a second pair of glasses that can help you see clearly. By switching to the corrective pair, you can finally perceive the world as it is – without any distortions.
In a sense, the ego is like those distorted glasses, while the Holy Spirit serves as the corrective pair. As we learn to trust the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we begin to remove the ego's filters and experience the world in a new light. This transformation can be profound, leading us to see our relationships, our purpose, and even ourselves in a completely different way.
Consider, for example, the relationships we form with others. When we view these relationships through the lens of the ego, we see them as separate entities, disconnected from our true selves. We might focus on what we can get from the other person or how they can fulfill our needs. In contrast, when we look at relationships through the eyes of the Holy Spirit, we see them as opportunities to experience God's love. We recognize that every person is an aspect of the divine, and our connection with them is a reflection of our true identity as spirit.
By embracing this perspective, we can begin to heal our relationships, transforming them from ego-driven struggles into expressions of divine love. This transformation doesn't necessarily mean that our relationships will look different on the outside; rather, it's an internal shift in how we perceive and experience them.
A perfect example of this concept can be found in the story of the "feeding of the multitude" in the New Testament. When the disciples saw the large crowd gathered before them, they felt overwhelmed and believed they had nothing to offer. However, with faith in the divine, they allowed the miracle to unfold, and the meager supplies of food they had were multiplied to feed the entire crowd.
In this story, the disciples learned to see beyond the limitations of their ego-based thinking. They recognized that, in unity with the divine, there was more than enough to go around – a concept that extends far beyond the miracle of the loaves and fishes. When we trust in the abundance of the divine, we can release our fear-based beliefs in scarcity and lack, allowing us to experience true fulfillment – a fulfillment that comes from recognizing our completeness in God, rather than seeking to fill a perceived void through our relationships.
So, as you navigate your own journey towards embracing the holy instant and letting go of your ego-based perceptions, remember the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Trust in its power to transform your relationships, your perception of the world, and ultimately, your understanding of your true identity as a spiritual being, connected to all of creation in God's unconditional love.
